Seven this year. She counted them in July and then wished she had not.
Two of them were weekends away. One was three days and she took leave for it. Two were online and one of those she watched twice. They were not bad conferences and she is not a person who goes to be entertained; she takes notes, she goes back over them, she has a system.
What she is looking for, if you pressed her, is a word.
Not a general one. She wants to be told the thing. There is a sense she has carried for about eighteen months that God has something specific for her and that she has not yet been in the right room to receive it, and each time she books another one there is a small hopeful thought that this might be the room.
And at the second one, back in February, in a session on relationships that she found slightly basic, a woman she has never met said something in passing about how we all know exactly who we owe an apology to.
And a name came up in her so fast it was almost physical.
She has known since February. It is one person. It is one conversation. It is not complicated and it is not ambiguous, and she could tell you in four sentences what she did and why it was wrong.
She has been to five more conferences since February.

He has shown you already, and the showing was short
Let me be fair to the seven, because they were not a waste and I am not writing that.
You do not go to be entertained and you do not go for a feeling. You take notes and you go back over them and you have a system, and there are things in you now that came out of those rooms and will still be in you at seventy. A person hungry enough to take leave from work for three days is not somebody to be lectured about hunger.
Now hear this, and take it as settled rather than as a challenge: the word you have been looking for was given to you in February, and it was given short. That is not my brisk reading of a long year, it is what stands written in Micah, where the whole question of what God wants is answered in one sentence, and the same Holy Spirit who inspired that line is the one who put a name up in you almost physically in a session you thought was basic.
Read it, and count how much of it there is.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.Micah 6:8
He has shown you. Past tense. Already done. The prophet is not promising a future revelation, he is telling a people who are asking a large question that the answer has been on the table the whole time.
And look at how short it is. Three things. The verse fits in a breath, and it is the summary of everything the prophets ever said, and it does not require a room or a weekend or leave from work.
So this is yours right now rather than pending the right conference: you have been given the word, because the written word says He has shown you already and the Spirit of God is the one who put a specific name in front of you in February and has kept it there through five more events since.
Now let me name the thing that has been happening, kindly, because it is very common and it is not wickedness.
Looking for a word is a good hunger. But a word you have not yet received asks nothing of you, and a word you have received asks everything, and so there is a particular comfort in continuing to look. The searching feels like devotion and costs only money and weekends. The apology costs something that cannot be paid in either.
That is not hypocrisy. That is a person doing the expensive thing last, which is what most people do. Nothing written condemns you for the order, and the Holy Spirit has been patient with it for six months.
And here is the freeing part. You have not been failing to hear from God all year. You heard from Him in February, plainly, in a session you would not have picked, and everything since has been the sound of a woman hoping for a second word before doing the first. What is written says He has shown you, and the Holy Spirit does not usually repeat Himself louder while the first thing is still sitting there.
So make the apology.
Not at the next event and not once you have understood yourself better. This week, to the one person, in four sentences, without a paragraph of context and without explaining what you have learned about yourself since February.
You have everything you need for that. It is already yours rather than pending another room, because Scripture says He has shown you what is good and puts the whole requirement in three short phrases, and the Holy Spirit has been holding a name in front of you for six months.
Say what you did. Say that it was wrong. Do not attach a reason, because a reason will sound like a defense however you word it, and do not ask for anything back.
And then go to the eighth conference if you want to. Genuinely. Book it, take the notes, use the system.
But go as a woman who has done the February thing, because a person carrying one undone word cannot hear a new one, and you have been sitting in rooms all year with your hands already full. What is written is that to obey is better than sacrifice, and the Holy Spirit fills empty hands rather than full ones.
Declare this over yourself
Then say these out loud. Know what they stand on: this authority is not yours by nature, it is Christ's, and in Christ it has been given to you, so you speak as one representing the King and not as somebody waiting to be told. Every line rests on what is already written, and it is the Holy Spirit who carries it, never the sound of your own voice. You speak under His will, never over it, and however He answers, the outcome is His.
- Search I have been running all year, you are called off. God says He has shown me already what is good, and it fits in one breath and does not require a weekend away.
- Fear that doing the February thing will cost more than another year of looking, get out, in the name of Jesus. A word I have not received asks nothing of me, and that is the whole reason I have kept looking for a second one.
- Jesus, You put that name up in me almost physically in a session I thought was basic, and You have not raised Your voice since. I am making the apology this week in four sentences, and I am walking into the eighth room with my hands empty.
